MEDITATIONS - I LOVE JAH
When you put on this album for the first time, not knowing what it is, you would probably think that you would be listening to another Black Ark recording.

But then, if you listen to the music itself, you would hear that the music is in fact heavily influenced by a style called "Rub a Dub": and the Black Ark isn't that known to record that kind of Reggae Music.

In fact, Lee Perry had already burned down his Black Ark studio at the time of this recording.

So, what's the deal?

ERNEST HOO-KIM - VITAL DUB
The brothers Ernest and Joe Hoo-Kim entered the Jamaican Music Industry through their works with Jukeboxes and "one-armed bandits". They would soon become synonymous with some of the hardest Rockers Reggae in the history of Reggae.

GLADIATORS - TRENCHTOWN MIX-UP
The story of the Gladiators is in many ways a mini-version of the story of Reggae Music and it starts with the name: nobody really knows the man who came up with the idea.

It was back in the 1960's, when founder Albert Griffiths was talking with someone who had just seen the movie "Ben Hur" and suggested the name "Gladiators" to him.

RITA MARLEY - WHO FEELS IT KNOWS IT

Backing vocals are one of (Reggae) music's secrets. They are actually among the most difficult disciplines in the skill of singing. Most of the time, backing vocals are in the back of the mix, and so the talents are not often noticed for what they are.

Who Feels It Knows It makes up that injustice. Listening to the album will reveal the talented voice of Rita Marley as she rides from one riddim to the next. And she does so, with the same skill as the musical works recorded by the musicians.

ISRAEL VIBRATION - FEELIN' IRIE (CD SINGLE)
There was a time, in which it was kind of a trend to release Riddim CD's: albums that would only carry one riddim, performed by different vocalists.

In a way, you could see this CD Single in that category. But there are differences, too. These differences could all in themselves be reasons to buy the album.

Let's mention three.

U ROY - RIGHT TIME ROCKERS - THE LOST ALBUM
In Reggae Music, it can be that an artist's finest works is hidden in some archive, or even lost. And with Right Time Rockers - The Lost Album we have an example of such a collection.

UB40 - PRESENT ARMS IN DUB
The band's name was taken from an unemployment benefit form, a thing which had to be filled in by the many unemployed. It was the same in the mid-west of the UK, where the band originated from.

They started to record and play music, in their own way. The father of the band's lead singer was a well-known folk singer, and so UB40's music was definitely Reggae, but with a different touch.

And that touch turned out to be a crucial touch, for the band became not only very popular, they reached a super-stardom until this very day in march 2007.

LUCIANO - GREAT CONTROVERSY
It is often said, that Luciano's voice is very similar to that of the crown prince of Reggae, Dennis Brown. And indeed, the similarity is there in a pretty obvious way. But to leave it at that, is to do injustice to Luciano.

The brother is a very conscious Rastaman, his works are original and without mentioning the similarity with Dennis Brown, there's too much reasons to check out Luciano in themselves.

So let's get into that, shall we?

FATMAN RIDDIM SECTION - SAME SONG DUB
(Part of the) Fatman Riddim Section is also known as part of the Inner Circle. The name speaks volumes, and not only about the members' appearances. The music is just as fat and perhaps even fatter than the tracks released under the name "Inner Circle".
