VARIOUS - TROJAN DUB RARITIES BOX

On this website, we often big up Reggae re-issue labels for their outstanding work. But there are also labels releasing Reggae music for decades now and thus have a very interesting collection in their own archives.

Trojan is such a label. They've put out a lot of Box Sets containing some very interesting material. The DUB Rarities Box is such a  Box Set. Three CD's literally packed with 50 crucial DUBS mostly from 1975 to 1978.

Even though Dubwise was allready established in the mid-1970's, many would argue that the years predominantly covered in DUB RARITIES marked a crucial development. No longer was DUB a three-letter word usually found on the B-sides of the 7 inch singles, no longer was the engineer an unnamed individual behind the mixing table.

Yes, it's a shame that all these wonderfull DUB mixes have to be presented as "Rarities". DUB is one of the strongest expressions in Reggae Music, and yet continually underestimated by the "experts". DUB had, and still has, a tremendous influence on popular electronic Dance music. Instruments dropping in and out, an emphasis on the drum and bass and all kinds of effects while vocals drop in and out.

Listen to the music on DUB RARITIES and you will listen to some of the most advanced musical arts from the 1970's. You will listen to skillfull mixes of many riddims of which only the vocal mix was more or less known.

Some highlights. You can find DUBs from Max Romeo's classic "War In A Babylon", Dillinger's "Flat Foot Hustling", and Barrington Levy's "Shine Eye Girl". Just three out of fifty crucial tunes!

The nice thing about this box is, that many of the vocal tracks are reasonably well-known but thusfar had to be popular without a DUB version. DUBS from these tracks were indeed, a rarity!

But this is the 21th century. We all know how there's not a chapter without a version! And so, DUB RARITIES is a must-have for every self-respecting collector of Reggae Music.
