MISTY IN ROOTS - ROOTS CONTROLLER

Reggae Music originated and was further developed mainly in Jamaican Studio's. In these Studio's, the Studio Bands played one riddim after another into the multi track recorders of the engineer.

Although the music was played by real musicians in real bands, Reggae Music was very much unlike the mainstream musical styles in the west. Take Rock Music where the standard is set by bands who have their own singers and their own reportoire as an example.

Most "Reggae Bands" were "simply" Studio Bands. The Roots Radics and the Revolutionaires at Channel One, the Upsetters at Black Ark, and the list can go on.

However, there are also Reggae Bands that do have their own singers and repertoire. Third World and the Inner Circle in Jamaica, and in the UK you had Steel Pulse and... Misty in Roots.

Misty in Roots may not be that known to everyone. They could very well be called one of Reggae's biggest secrets.

But still, the UK based band has made quite a name with their incredible live performances. Their live album "Live at the Counter Eurovision" has reached a classic status among those who can appricilove the better Roots Reggae. There are two tracks from this classic late 1970's album on "Roots Controller".

"The Music Of Our Art Is Roots", they say. And their music is indeed a deep, deep form of Roots Music. Their dreadly combination of consciousness and freedom sounds form a welcome addition to every serious Reggae collection.

"Roots Controller" captures the heartical and spiritual atmosphere of Misty in Roots. It's a great album that can introduce a great band to a wider audience. It's even the only Misty In Roots album currently in print at the time of this writing (feb 2006)!
